- Reporting requirements for communicable diseases are regulated and enforced by:

-the CDC
-State public health departments
-local public health departments
A provider is required to report the following to the local health department:
-all infectious diseases, such as measles
-communicable diseases; sexually transmitted diseases sTDs, such as herpes, HIV, and syphilis
-certain crimes (rape, domestic abuse, elder abuse, child abuse, neglect, exploitation, wounds of violence, assault, physical injury due to a fire arm).

A medical assistant who has the knowledge of falsely billing Medicare for tests or procedures not actually performed- can be guilty of criminal conduct.
