At 19 weeks pregnant, Royce Young and his wife, Keri, found out that their unborn daughter had a rare birth defect called anencephaly, a condition in which the baby will be born with an underdeveloped brain and an incomplete skull. Their options were either to terminate the pregnancy or to give birth and the baby would soon die. The Youngs decided to continue with the pregnancy and, once the baby was born, donate her organs. The baby would not be able to survive on her own once born and would be dependent on life-sustaining equipment until her organs could be donated. The baby was unexpectedly stillborn, and none of her organs could be used for donation.

Owing to the shortage of organs, did the Youngs make the most moral and ethical decision in planning on donating their terminally ill daughter's organs?

Is it unethical to artificially sustain the baby's life for the purpose of organ donation?
