ANSWER - COLON CANCER-  Colon cancer is a type of cancer that begins in the large intestine. Colon is the end part of the digestive tract.

It affects mainly older adult .IN this disease condition clumps of cells called polyps that form on the inside of the colon.After some time these polyps become cancerous.

SIGN AND SYMPTOMS -

  • Changes in the bowel habits constipation or diarrhoea may occur
  • rectal bleeding
  • blood in stool
  • abdominal cramps , pain
  • anorexia
  • weight loss
  • weakness

RISK FACTOR -

  • Older age - older than 50 yrs
  • previous history of colorectal cancer
  • previous history of inflammatory bowel disease
  • genetic factor
  • Excessive use of alcohol
  • obesity

DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATION -

  • screening for colon cancer
  • colonoscopy
  • liver function test

TREATMENT -

  • Chemotherapy
  • Radiation therapy
  • endoscopic mucosal resection
  • polypectomy - removal of polyps
  • laproscopic surgery

PREVENTION -

  • maintain weight
  • exercise regularly
  • aviod use of alcohol
  • routinly check up
