Answer #1

Prescribed promethazine sulfate 25mg iv.

The medication vial contains 12.5mg per ml.

The recommendation is 12.5mg (1 ml) of promethazine should be diluted with 5ml of normal saline prior to administration.

Patients need 2 ml of promethazine. 12.5mg+12.5mg = 25mg

1 ml should be diluted in 5 ml then 2 ml will be diluted in 10 ml

So, now the total medication will be 12 ml ( 2ml of promethazine + 10 ml of NS = 12ml )

the nurse will have administered a total iv bolus of 12 ml of fluid and medication.
