Describe and discuss why nurses have a responsibility to uphold a standard of conduct consistent with the standards governing the nursing profession at work and in their personal lives. Include discussion of how personal conduct can violate HIPAA or be considered not ethical or unprofessional. Provide an example of each to support your answer.

The nurses are the heart of patient care who are the only professionals to be with their patients round the clock than any other professionals. Their relationship with a patient are therapeutic and professional which can make the patient come out with all or most of their feelings and emotions. This can be create a different bond of a nurse doesn't makes a proper professional conducts.This not only affects the quality of patient care but also the personal and professional life of a nurse in a name called professional misconduct or simply misconduct. This can nearby halt the career of the nurses.

Some of the personal conduct of the nurses which can violate the HIPAA violations are

  • A nurse discussing or disclosing about a patient in an open area (cafeteria, reception, etc )in the hospital which can be overheard by others and is considered to be HIPAA violations
  • A nurse is liable to be truthful but in certain cases they are not in a position to disclose the most confidential information like lab reports, diagnosis, etc.,Accodental disclosure due to truthful conduct can lead to HIPAA violation
