Answer #1

Answer:

Primary purpose of an isolation plate?

  • Isolation plates are used to obtain discrete colonies of microbes from a mixed population.
  • Streak plate technique is usually used for isolation of pure culture of microorganisms.

Is it possible to employ this method on a different type of plate than TSA?

  • TSA plates are used as general, non specific culture plates for isolation, cultivation, and maintenance of fastidious and nonfastidious microorganisms.
  • Nutrient agar or Luria broth (LB) plates can also be used as a different type of plate to employ this method.

If not, why not? If so, what would its benefits be?

  • Selective media can be used instead of non specific TSA plates to isolate only selective bacterial populations from a mixture of different populations.
