Order: Ampicillin, 75mg/kg q6h IV over 20 minutes Directions: Reconstitute medication with 2mL of 0.9% Normal Saline for IM 150 L of 0.9% N Saline for IV Patient weighs 191bs. Available: al 14 lbs= for injection, Us How many kilograms does this patient weigh?--PH 9. How many milliliters need to be administered?

ANSWER.

* Weight of the patient in kg.

          Patient weight in pounds(lbs) = 19 lbs.

                                          1 lbs = 0.45 kg

        So

              Weight of the patient in kg = 19 * 0.45

                                                       = 8.6 kg.

* Calculation of amount(ml) of Amoxicillin administered.

           Formula = Desired dose / Dose in hand * Quantity

                 Here

                     Desired dose (D) = 7.5 mg/kg.

                         Weight of the patient = 8.6 kg.

                      So

                         Desired dose for this patient = 7.5 * 8.6

                                                                        = 64.5 mg.

                             Dose in hand(H) = 125 mg.

                              Quantity(Q) = 150 ml.(For IV use)

       As per formula

                   Amount (ml) of Amoxicillin administered = D/H * Q

                                                                            = 64.5 / 125 * 150

                                                                            = 0.51 * 150

                                                                            = 76.5 ml.
