NETWORKING I please help.. thanks you.

Given that a subnet mask byte value has bits set to 1 from left to right there is a small set of possible values. The first tow values are 128,192. What are the rest of the values?

Hint: here are place values or each bit in a byte

128           64          32           16            8            4         2          1

What are the rest of the values? 128, 192...

Consider the following pc configuration

IP address:                 192.168.1.2

Subnet Mask:             255.255.255.0

Default Gateway          192.168.2.1

The default gateway must be on the same network as the host. Is it? Yes or No

Given the following information determine the broadcast address of the network.

IP address:     192.168.1.1

Subnet Mask:   255.255.255.0

What is the network broadcast address?

Given the following information determine the broadcast address of the network.

IP address:     122.16.1.1

Subnet Mask:   255.255.0.0

Question 1

Given that a subnet mask byte value has bits set to 1 from left to right there is a small set of possible values. The first two values are 128,192. What are the rest of the values?

Hint: here are place values or each bit in a byte

128           64          32           16            8            4         2          1

What are the rest of the values? 128, 192...

Ans:

128 64 32 16 8 4 2 1 Value
1 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 128
1 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 192
1 1 1 0 0 0 0 0 224
1 1 1 1 0 0 0 0 240
1 1 1 1 1 0 0 0 248
1 1 1 1 1 1 0 0 252
1 1 1 1 1 1 1 0 254
1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 255

Question 2

Consider the following pc configuration

IP address:                 192.168.1.2

Subnet Mask:             255.255.255.0

Default Gateway          192.168.2.1

Yes, the default gateway address should be the same network as the host, default gateway allows the computers to communicate with other networks.

Question 3

Given the following information determine the broadcast address of the network.

IP address:     192.168.1.1

Subnet Mask:   255.255.255.0

What is the network broadcast address: 192.168.1.255

the broadcast address can be found by keeping the bits on network portion same and host portion to high(1)

since the subnet mask is given as 255.255.255.0 the first 3 portions are the network portion, so keeping that same and turn the host portion to the highest value we get the broadcast id as 192.168.1.255

Question 4

Given the following information determine the broadcast address of the network.

IP address:     122.16.1.1

Subnet Mask:   255.255.0.0

What is the network broadcast address: 122.16.255.255

since the subnet mask is given as 255.255.0.0 the first 2 portions are the network portion, so keeping that same and turn the host portion to highest value we get the broadcast id as 122.16.255.255

For this assignment you will explore subnet addresses, host addresses and direct broadcast addresses. You will be provided an IP addresses and then asked to answer questions related to the IP. In this assignment, first we explain how to find the subnet address for each subnet, the range of host addresses, and the direct broadcast address. Then you will be asked to do a similar exercise by yourself. Assume that you have been assigned the 192.168.1.0/24 network. You need to...
