Question

Please help me this chart with an explanation. Thanks

Practice Calculating Subnet Masks Complete the blank cells in the table below based on the facts provided. The charts on pages 88 -89 may be helpful for this exercise. If you use the charts -think about the subnet mask, how the number of host bits are calculated and the resulting number of hosts. The chart already has factored in reducing the number of hosts by 2. The first and last host addresses are not usable The first host address is the network address. The last host address is the broadcast address. The first step is to identify the Class (A, B,C). Look at the first octet of the IP address and use the chart on page 74 to determine the Class. Once you know the class, find the appropriate chart (A, B or C) on pages 88 and 89 Once you identify the chart to use on pages 88 and 89, the next step is to find the right row in the chart by using the information given to you. Once you find the right row, you can complete the rest of this table The number in the CIDR notation indicates the number of network bits. Or you can add the numbers in the Net ID and Subnet ID columns from the chart. The Host bits will be 32 minus the number of network bits. The sum of the number of network and host bits must equal 32, You can also use the Host ID column in the chart to determine the Host bits. If you are given a number of hosts, you will use the # of Hosts column in the chart. You will start at the bottom of the chart for that class and work up to find the smallest network with a number of hosts that will accommodate the requirement. Selecting a larger network would accommodate the request but would waste addresses.
