Answer #1

Given a Network B with network address 186.100.0.0 with default subnet mask 255.255.0.0.

For the given network, 16 bits are for network ID and remaining 16 bits are for host ID parts.

The given network has to be subnetted into at least 235 subnets. Therefore at least ceil(log2 235) = 8 bits has to be borrowed in order to create at least 235 subnets. All though, those borrowed 8 bits creates 256 subnets. So, the remaining 8 bits are used for host ID.

The range of subnet IDs are as follows:

From 186.100.0.0, 186.100.1.0, 186.100.2.0,,............ to 186.255.0.0

Subnet Subnet ID First host IP address Last host IP address Broadcast address for the subnet 186.100.0.0 186.100.0.1 186.100.

First and last possible IP address of a subnet are used to represent Subnet ID and Broadcast address for that subnet. Therefore, the remaining addresses are used for host IP address.

i) 8 bits are needed to be borrowed in order to create at least 235 subnets.

ii) The new subnet mask for any subnet is 255.255.255.0. By keeping all 1's in subnet ID part and by keeping 0's in the remaining host ID part.

iii) In CIDR, 186.100.x.0/24 is the representation of a network. Its CIDR prefix is /24.

iv) 8 bits are left for host ID representation for each subnet.

v) Since 2 addresses are for subnet ID and broadcase address, remaining of 254 addresses are valid IP addresses for each subnet.

Subnet Subnet ID First host IP address Last host IP address Broadcast address for the subnet 186.100.0.0 186.100.0.1 186.100.0.254 186.100.0.255 First Subnet Last Subnet 186.100.255.0 186.100.255.1 186.100.255.254 186.100.255.255
