Suppose an organization has been allocated the IPv4 address block 64.4.4.0/23. They want to subnet this block of addresses so that each subnet can support up to 200 valid IP addresses.

  1. What is the new subnet prefix length (in /n notation)
  2. What is the new subnet mask (in dotted decimal notation)
  3. What is the maximum number of host id’s that each subnet can support?
  4. List subnet id, the first valid host address, and the last valid host address for the first four subnets

Answer #1

Ip notation:- a.b.c.d/n

Here,n indicates the no.of network id(NID) bits.

Given ip is 64.4.4.0/23

Total no.of bits in ip address is 32

32-23=9 bits

We were asked to create four subnets. Right?

To create four subnets, we require two bits from those available 9 bits.

Therefore, after subtract two boys from 9 bits, we'll be having 7bits.

7bits indicates the host id bits for each subnet.

It means 27-2 valid host addresses will be present in each subnet.

27-2 = 126

Hence, we can't create four subnets of each having ip addresses up to 200 with the given data
