The law of corresponding states indicates that all fluids when compared at same reduced state variables, exhibit similar properties.
Substances are said to be in corresponding states when their reduced state variables like reduced temperature, density and pressure have the same values. The reduced state variables are the ratio of the value of state variables to the values of state variables at critical state. In simple words, two similar reduced state variables, say reduced temperature and reduced pressure will correspond to a common reduced volume.
The law of corresponding states states can help us identify less studied materials by comparing their values to known substances. Thus, thus law helps a lot in calculating the properties of a gas.
