As we all agree with the fact that we cannot clap from one hand, we should also agree upon the fact that we cannot build a good positive relation single-sided, for a facilitator to be a good peer facilitator students also plays a major role in it. Some role of student are listed below -

ROLE OF STUDENTS

  1. Facilitator-  When it comes to peer learning no one can be a better facilitator for your peer than you, So Don't tease your groupmate for not knowing anything but help him in the best way you can.
  2. Listener-  Listen to you peer carefully, try not to cut someone's statement in between be patient to let them complete and speak when it's your turn. By doing this everyone will get proper space and time to share their point of views, and you will be getting time to analyse your thoughts because only a good LISTENER can be a good SPEAKER.
  3. Note keeper/ Recorder- Record the thoughts and things being discussed in the group and then write the summary after the discussion is over.
  4. Speaker- Share your views, experiences and knowledge with your group and with other groups. This will enhance your knowledge and understanding.
  5. Motivator- Noone understand your group mates better than you, so motivate them to participate in the group activities and discussion.
  6. Respondent-  Share your feedback, ideas and Views with your peer facilitator to make peer learning more efficient and interesting for your groups.

DON'T for Students-

  1. Never try to demine or tease any of your peers
  2. Never try to emphasise your viewpoint over others.
  3. Don't try to stand out or above the group but try to get involved in it.     

These are the few roles a student can play to make peer learning better and efficient for himself and his groupmates.

Typical Peer Session

In a typical peer session, students are grouped in a pair or into a group of 6. They are made to sit together in a way that they can easily talk and share their work for example in a circle. In this session, students can share their problems, experience, knowledge and can help each other to solve their problem. A facilitator will be guiding them to see different methods to enhance their work and to work upon their mistakes rather than just merely telling them their mistakes or providing them with a correct solution. When a person is speaking than everyone will act as a facilitator and listen to that person carefully, every person will be given equal importance and attention.
