Answer #1

When auxin enters a cell in the elongation zone it activates the proton pump. This hyperpolarizes the cell. This voltage change causes K+ions to enter the cell through channels. It also activates the H+ (H+ or Na+?)/ sugar co-transporter. All this ion movement decrease(s) cell osmotic potential. This causes water to enter the cell, which increase(s) pressure potential in the cell. The decrease(s) in pH of wall space activates expansins, which cuts quick link between microfibrlis.
