They found that the children were 13 months old on average when they spoke their first word; the data had a standard deviation of 4.93 months. What is the average age at which the population of children speak their first English word?

= 4.93/V20 = 1.1024

From Table, critical values of Z= \pm 1.96

So,

E = 1.96 X 1.1024= 2.1607

13 \pm 2.1607

= ( 10.8393, 15.1607)

There is 0.95 probability that mean age at which the population of children speak their first English word lies in the interval:
