the reaction is

P4 + 5 O2 → 2 P2O5

given

240 g of O2

no of moles of O2 = mass / molar mass of O2 = 240 / 32 = 7.5

From the reaction we can say 5 moles of O2 gives 2 Moles of P2O5

For 7.5 moles of O2 no of moles of P2O5 produced is 7.5 * 2 / 5 = 3 moles of P2O5

Part C

From the question 3.40 Mole P2O5 formed from phosphorous and excess oxygen , 3 Mole P2O5 formed from Oxygen and

excess phosphorous

From this result we can conclude that less no of moles of P2O5 is obtained from oxygen hence oxygen is the limiting

reagent

so the theoretical yield will be the no of moles of P2O5 obtained from the limiting reagent

Hence

number of moles of P2O5 produced from the given amounts of phosphorus and oxygen is 3 moles
