a] Magnification of the telescope = focal length of the objective / focal length of eyepiece = fo/fe

here, the objective is the mirror and so, fo = 80 m

focal length of eyepiece = 50 mm = 0.05 m

therefore, magnification = 80/0.05 = 1600

b] From the relation above for magnification, the focal length of the eyepiece must be made small in order to make the denominator smaller so that the magnification is larger.
