One of most important factor that limits and determine cell size is surface area to volume ratio of cell. The larger is the ratio, better will be the diffusion of substance across and throughout cell. Therefore the cell with larger surface area to volume ratio will be better.

• Ratio = surface area/Volume
• For cube = 6 S²/S³ = 6/S

A. Ratio A = 6/10 mcu

B. Ratio B = 6/20 mcu

C. Ratio C = 6/30 mcu

D. Ratio D = 6/40 mcu

Form above we can see that cell model A has largest surface area to volume ratio, therefore it will be more efficient in removing waste.
