In the course reading (How cellular information is altered?), It lists three different types of mutations by a single point mutation. (missense, nonsense, and silent mutation). For codon AUC, Give an example for each mutation and explain why.   (If you cannot generate a particular mutation, state the reason)

Codon: AUC

Codes for amino acid: Isoleucine

Point Mutation: is change in only one base in the sequence.

Missense: In this mutation, change of a nitrogenous base leads to formation of codon that codes for a different amino acid.

e.g  UUC

Code for phenyalanine

Non sense:

When mutation leads to formation of a codon that terminates the chain.

In codon AUC generating a non sense mutation is not feasible as the codon to be generated for non sense mutation is UAA, UAG, UGA. With single base change generating such sequences is not possible.

Silent: In this mutation, codon generated also codes for the same amino acid, hence producing no change in phenotypic effect.

e.g AUU: Also codes for Isoleucine
