David Schlossberg, a professor at Temple University School of Medicine, has edited a book entitled "Infections of Leisure." As a by-product of our prosperity, more time is available to travel, swim, camp, hike, garden and taste exotic foods. We continue to pamper our (sometimes unusual) pets and to play increasingly challenging sports. However, all these activities expose us to an expanding list of pathogenic microbes, some of which are entirely new and others of which are resistant to current therapy. Consider ANY FIVE leisure activities and discuss which organisms may be potentially dangerous to us in each case.
Some of the leisure activities which could be associated with microbes are-
1. Spending time on beaches sun bathing- Beach sand are known to be a big reservior of microbes such as bacteria and viruses.
2. Hot springs- They are known to contain microbes such as archaea.
3. Spa and salon- As they use some product and equipments for all the customers, they are suspected to harbour many kinds of microorganisms.
I could think of these three points.
Hope it helps, Good luck
