What is a good response to this discussion?

Out of all the quality gurus in this chapter we discussed, I think I agree most with W. Edwards Deming. The theory is that improvements in quality lead to lower costs and higher productivity because they result in less rework, fewer mistakes, fewer delays, and better use of time and materials. I think this theory is important because with business, in general, I think the goal is to improve the overall quality and have the best cost measurements. There are 14 points that lead to a framework for the improvement of productivity. Instead of relying on inspection at the end of the process to find flaws, Deming advocated a statistical analysis of the manufacturing process and emphasized the cooperation of workers and management to achieve high-quality products.

Throughout the reading, it becomes more evident how the organization and utilizing it can improve the overall quality of the business in general. When an organization is in place I feel like it boosts the company's run time and how the company runs. In turns, it will overall lower the run cost and spend less money. I believe with proper management and organization it will give the workers a heavier focus on their work as opposed to any other stuff. With having this implemented it will cut down on cost for other aspects and overall save more money. With proper training to the workers and the workforce, I feel like utilizing this method with proper teaching it will overall help with cooperation of workers and management to achieve high quality products

Answer #1

The principles of Quality Management outlined by Deming are simple and powerful. They have been widely acclaimed and acknowledged for their value. The real challenge for businesses lies in translating this theoretical construct to practice. The theory is available to all businesses to evaluate and adopt, a few of the businesses may choose to adopt these principles, and fewer still may be able to successfully implement them. The benefits for these businesses would be lower costs and higher quality, and thus greater customer preference and profitability.
