The company introduced handheld calculators, the first commercially distributed data processing system, LaserJet printers, and (jointly with Intel) the Explicitly Parallel Instruction Computing (EPIC) architecture. HP acquire largest market share in printer segment and it is fighting hard for a major market share in laptop.

HP is founded on 1939 by two graduate engineering students named William R. Hewlett and David Packard they started their company in garage of California which later declared California State Historical Landmark in 1989 and is considered the birthplace of Silicon Valley. Its first customer was Walt Disney Productions, which purchased eight audio oscillators to use in the making of its full-length animated film. HP also developed products for military and help navy to built counter radar technology and applications during the world war II.In 2015 the company made a strategic move to break the company in two parts - one is HP and HPE . This move was taken because hp sales of pc and laptops are declining in recent years . In order to bring more efficency and profits in brand they break the company in two parts so that they can use every single resource in efficient and in effective way.

Mission and vision statement : HP doesn’t have an official mission statement but it’s expressed through it's vision and there vision acts as it's mission statement. So there vision is to create that type of technology that makes every person , society , community and every organization life better and easy . The main thing which motivates HP is to invent new technology and reinvent technology so that they can serve a better product every time and do something new or unique which can make life better .

In the recent times, the rise of new technologies like the cloud technology have greatly altered how people and businesses used to work. Therefore, HP’s focus is on technology that works and helps its clients perform. In this regard you can say that HP’s mission statement is focused on the product.

SWOT ANALYSIS: So now we are goona do a swot analysis of HP .SWOT stand for strength , weakness , opportunity and Threats . So let's start the swot analysis.

Strength of HP in swot analysis :

Brand Valuation: Hewlett packard has a fantastic brand equity and they are ahed many of the players in the consumer durable segment. It is also one of the major providers of service network products. The company has a significant market reach all over the world in nearly all of the markets it operates. This has resulted in a strong brand reputation. Diversified product portfolio. HP offers thousands of different products and services. In addition, its product portfolio is more diversified than competitors’ portfolios, which make HP less susceptible to changes in the different industries and markets. They have bulk printers and bulk xerox machines which are excellent in performance and durability.

Weakness of HP in swot analysis:

Declining Demand: The demand for printing systems and personal computers have decreased in recent years.Company revenue declined by a 17% in desktop PCs, 2% in notebook PCs, 9% in workstations and 8% in other net revenue. Because, HP still heavily depends on sales from PC, especially laptops. The market for PC has matured and is expected to grow very slowly or even decline after a few years. Combining this with ever decreasing margins on computer hardware products, HP’s largest Personal Systems division becomes a weakness for the company.

Weak Financials: they recorded a decrease of 7.3% in revenues compared to FY 2014. The operating profits also decreased by 23.9% compared to FY 2014.HP is weak in financial because of their poor decisions in acquisitions.

After sales service in computers: HP’s laptop and desktops are known to have poor after sales service especially in emerging countries.

Opportunities in the SWOT Analysis of HP

  1. Expand services and enterprise solutions divisions. HP provides various services (cloud, security and infrastructure) and enterprise solutions (servers, networking and storage), which are the most profitable HP’s businesses at the moment. The company should focus on growing these divisions as they promise better growth opportunities and higher profit margins.
  2. Increasing demand of cloud based services. The cloud computing market is expected to grow by an average of 22% each year from 2011 to 2020. By 2020, the market is expected to reach $240 billion value. Currently, HP is offering many services related with cloud computing and is well positioned to benefit from the growing market.
  3. Acquisition of more technology related patents. R&D is expensive to engage in and the best alternative to that is to acquire patents from other companies in the market. HP has a lot of free cash that could be used to acquire companies holding the necessary technology patents. With strengthened patent portfolio, HP would be able to compete with the rival firms in the table market.

Threats of HP in SWOT analysis:

Product Challenges: The growth of personal computer product line has slowed down. The printing line also has many competitors and is facing a growth decline.

Competition: Competition in the personal systems segment are Lenovo, Dell, Acer, ASUSTeK, Apple, Toshiba, and Samsung and In the printing segment are Canon, Lexmark, Xerox, Seiko Epson, Ricoh, Samsung and Brother Industries.

Smartphones: Due to rising in the demand and popularity of the smartphones the PC is taking a slowdown. Not just in revenue but the total volume of shipments will also reduce.
