In terms of implementation, what challenges might present itself if a company prolongs a redesign project too long into the future?
Redesigns are very critical for any organization to evolve, adapt and maintain market share. With a fast paced environment, it is even more important that organizations are agile. However, if these re-designs are prolonged too long in future, then this might pose multiple challenges. The first one is the rapid changes that happen in the environment for which the redesign was planned. If changes are not implemented then it might soon obsolete by the time it is implemented, thereby defeating the whole purpose of a re-design. Another aspect is the interconnected nature of processes and systems today. The redesign is also dependent on supporting systems and any change in these supporting systems over time might make the redesign ineffective. The third issue is of effectiveness. While any redesign is done with some analysis and expected benefit. However, the actual results might vary. So if we prolong it then one would not know the effectiveness for a long time. The company would not be able to adapt its strategy based on the outcome of the redesign.
Hence it is imperative that any redesign is implemented on priority.
