What is data integrity and why is it important in databases?
Data integrity refers to the validity of data. It relates to the
logical protection
(complete, correct and consistent of data).
Data integrity avoids from human errors when data is
entered.Errors that occur, when
data transmitted from one place to another.
Data integrity can be implemented by following rules:
Primary key, Foreign key, Relationship.
The objective of data integration is combining data residing at
different sources
and providing the user with a unified view of these data.
It refers to centralization of information.
In manual file systems data is stored in many files at different
locations. It means
data is stored on different computers but it logically appears as
single file.
Data integrity is related with quality of data. When database
contains any
error it loses its integrity.
Data integrity expressed in terms of integrity constraints. These
are rules
designed to make the data accurate and consistent.
Data integrity also relates to security and protection. Security
means to protect
the data from unauthorized while integrity is related to quality of
data.
