1. The map below shows the appropriate symbols for the cold (blue triangles) and warm (red semi-circles) fronts, and the warm and cool sectors of the storm.

2. The map above shows the wind directions in the western, southern, eastern, and northern parts of the storm, i.e. northwesterly, southwesterly, southeasterly, and northeasterly respectively.

3. The storm as a whole is moving from the west to east as the low-pressure system is rotating the winds in an anti-clockwise direction.

4. The cross-section below shows the cold front and warm front bordered by blue and red respectively. The fronts enclose the cold, cool and warm air masses. The directions of cold and warm fronts are marked with blue and red respectively.

5. The most likely wind direction at point D is from the southwest as the winds are moving in an anticlockwise direction around the low-pressure system.

b) The reason for the decrease in temperature is that the sky conditions will be overcast due to the formation of thick, cumulonimbus clouds.

9. The most likely wind direction at point B is southwesterly as the winds are blowing counterclockwise around the low-pressure center.

10. a) At point B, the pressure is rising.

b) The rise in pressure occurs after the passage of the cold front as the cold, dry and heavy air sinks towards the surface creating fair weather conditions.
