Answer #1

Using law of conservation of energy,

0.5 mv^2 + mg d sin(theta) = 0.5 kx^2

(0.5 x 2.5 x 0.75^2) + (2.5 x 9.8 x (0.3 + x) sin(20)) = 0.5 x 500 x^2

250 x^2 - 8.38 x - 3.22 = 0

X= 0.131 m

    d = the distance the spring compresses A block of mass M is placed on an inclined plane that makes an angle theta relative to the horizontal. The block and plane interact with friction coefficients. The angle of inclination is greater then that required for the block to slip and so once it is released, the mass begins to move. It slides a distance L until it makes contact with a spring with stiffness k. The spring compresses a distance...

    A block of mass 3 kg is pushed against a spring of spring constant 3000 N/m. Initially, the spring is compressed by a distance of 0.220 m, when the block is released from rest and travels along a horizontal frictionless surface before encountering a frictionless ramp, inclined at an angle of 37° above the horizontal. How far along the ramp does the block travel before momentarily coming to rest?
