Answer #1
  • In standard absorption spectrum, the absorbance values of a particular dilute solution of a certain substance is plotted against the wavelength values.
  • The wavelength which gives the maximum absorbance is called as lambda max and is used to study the absorbance of all the other dilute solutions of the same substance.
  • The standard concentration curve is obtained by plotting the absorbance values of the different dilute solutions having different concentrations versus the concentration of the dilute solutions.
  • According to beer lambert law, A = ecl where, A is the absorbance value, e is the molar extinction coefficient, c is the concentration of the solution and l is the path length.
  • The concentration of a particular unknown solution can be calulated by using the absorbance value obtained, path length used and the molar extinction coefficient at the wavelength used from literature.
