Question

In guinea pig, white coat (f is recessive to black coat (F) and curly hair (h) is recessive to straight hair (H). A breeder crosses a guinea pig that is homozygous for white coat and curly hair with a guinea pig that is black with straight hair. The F1 are then crossed with guinea pig having white coat and curly hair in a series of testcrosses. The following progeny are produce from these testcrosses white, curly 31 white, straight 12 black, straight 30 black curly a Are the genes that determine coat color and hair type assorting independently? Use chi-square analysis to test your hypothesis. b) If genes are not assorting independently, what is the recombination frequency between them

Answer #1

a: Gene are not assorting independently. because we considering two contrasting charcters means dihydrid ratio.

according to mendel's laws, dihybrid ratio is 9:3:3:1. It is not following that ratio. May be these genes are in linkage map.

b. Recombination frequency: [No.of recombinats/ total]*100

white curly (31) and black stright (30) were parents.

white stright (12) and black curly (10) were recombinants.

Rf: [22/83]*100=26.5%, [may be if they are linked genes, Distance between two genes were 26.5 cM]
