a somatic cell at G1 phase has 5 pg of DNA. in the S phase, the DNA content will get double due to replication. hence in S phase DNA content would be 10 pg.

after meiosis there would be 4 cells ( gamete). the DNA content which is 10 pg will get equally distributed in each cell. hence 10/4 = 2.5 pg. hence each cell (gamete) will have 2.5 pg of DNA.

gametes are only formed by meiosis, a form of reductional division where chromosome numbers and DNA content becomes half of the mother cell.
