The phrenic nerve innervates the diaphragm,which is the most important muscle responsible for breathing.The phrenic nerve originates from the C3-C5 of the neck.The nerve enters the thoracic cavity and travels between the lungs and the side of the heart to finally reach the diaphragm.The phrenic nerve belongs to the cervical plexus of the peripheral nervous system.It provide motor innervation to the diaphragm.
