Three uses of CDSS are
(i) Helping the physicians to make informed and rational decisions about the course of treatment to be given to a patient through analysis of past data with regards to length and nature of treatment, effect of treatment so far, medications administered, freuency of visits, new issues emerged (if any) and results of diagnosis and periodic status reports generated so far. These reprts and many other data is made available by CDSS to the decision maker physician.
(ii) Helping the physician to choose the right medication and alert him /her if a possibility of adverse and undesirable effects of the treatment is seen, based on outcomes of similar past data of this kind.
(iii) The CDSS which use artificial intelligence use a number of different data, apart from the patients' own data to analyse its situation and give recommendations about the best course of action for a patient, taking into account, all relevant conditions, possibilities, scenarios and past experiences. In some tasks, they can actually replace the clinical staff.
