Suppose you want to show that first-born children have an average higher cholesterol level than the national average. It is known that the mean cholesterol level for all Americans is 190, give or take 15. We test 100 first-born children and find that their average cholesterol level is 198. Test this hypothesis at the .05 alpha level. (Tip: “give or take” is a layman’s term for standard deviation!) Construct the hypothesis test:
