1. Population is not used in describing species. Population is a group of organisms of the same species populating a given area, a group of individuals of the same species that live in the same area and interbreed, producing fertile offspring. Interbreeding, sexual reproduction, natural selection and color are used in describing species. Individuals in an interbreeding population share in a common gene pool. My question is can you tell me how interbreeding, sexual reproduction, natural selection and color are used in describing species?

2. The convergence in external morphology of sharks, penguins, and porpoises is attributed to selection pressures that are common to these groups. Such as favorable enrionment or ability to swim. The prey for these species are also swimmers and so to ensure their survival they have to exhibit the morphology that will enable them get their food. This is not due to reduced genetic variability in these groups, reproductive isolation of these groups, or identical genes in all three groups. I know that by reading the options and know slection pressures is the answer but don't know why the others could not be. Can you explain it?

3. During RECENT epoch does a major extinction event begin. The major extinctions took place in "recent" time/era because of humans are the most complex and evolved species on earth which is the most common cause of extinction. Can you tell me why the answer would not be: Eocene, Oligocene, Miocene, and Pleistocene ?

Answer #1

Ans-1 the interbreeding, sexual reproduction, natural selection and color are used for description of the species because interbreeding occur between the organisms of the two population having same type of morphology and gene pool.

Sexual reproduction is used because mating will be between the same type of organisms i.e. which share same species. Sexual reproduction is always intraspecific.

Natural selection help in gaining some specific some specific traits which are required by that species to survive efficiently in specific geographical region, so the natural selection for the same species living in the same region will be similar to each other that's why it can be used for description of the species.

1-There is a population of individuals which are geographically isolated from other populations of their species. Their population mates randomly, has no net mutations in their genome, and is not subjected to natural selection pressures. However, their population is small, only 200 individuals. The gene for fur color in this population has two alleles in a dominant-recessive relationship, A and a. If allele A is currently at a frequency of 0.8 and allele a is at 0.2: i. What do...

In that population a mutation results in a parasite resistant genotype that spreads through the population through natural selection. A subsequent mutation in the parasite results in a genotype that is unaffected by the newly evolved resistant guppy genotype. What is the name of the hypothesis that explains this host parasite “arms race”.? 1b) What is this name...

Which of the following species concepts is defined by populations of interbreeding individuals that are reproductively isolated from other populations? A. phylogenetic B. ecological C. biological D. morphologicalOn the Bahamian Island of Andros, mosquitofish populations live in now-isolated, freshwater ponds that were once united. Currently, some predator-rich ponds have mosquitofish with a body shape that allows them to swim in short, fast bursts. Other predator-poor ponds have mosquitofish with a body shape that allows them to swim continuously for a...

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
