Gamma rays, X rays and high energy beta particles can penetrate the skin.

However alpha particles and low energy beta particles are also hazardous if they are taken into the body or swallowed.

X rays and gamma rays are photons whereas beta particles can be positron or a negatron.

Alpha particles has 2 protons and 2 neutrons which is identical to a helium nucleus
