From the knowledge of the question and nervous system i came to the conclusion that Dylan is suffering from a thoracic injury.

As we know nervoous system being a complex structure consisting of nerves and the cells related to it. Nervous system is divided into parts namely CNS,PNS,SNS and ANS.

There are 31 pairs of spinal nerves . white and grey matter make the spinal cord . Spinal cord is divided into four regions; namely, thoracic , lumbar ,sacral and cervical regions. .

Paralysis suggests that Dylan suffered from a spinal cord injury where there were nerve damages and in this case since he began to have difficulty breathing on his own he suffered damages near the cervical region of the spinal cord.
