3. (15 pts total) You lithoautotrophy based on sequencing its genome an isolated a new bacterial species and hypothesized that it can ONLY use aerobic d seeing what metabolism genes are there. Below are three Other than the environmental change of your experiment and control, assume i grow. Its growth rate is only dependent on the amount of Choose ONE prediction (A-C; each can be used experiment compared to the control (2 pts each). Then, explain WHY you you will perform to test your hypothesis plus a control (in parentheses) to compare it with. has everything else it needs to energy and biomass it gains through metabolism. more than once or not at all) that you expect to observe in your predict this outcome (3 pts each) O2/H2O E 0.816 V NOS/N02-E0, + 0.420 V Fe /Fe2 Eo + 0.200 v CO2/glucose Eo0.430 v A. Zero growth rate B. Same growth rate C. Faster growth rate E1- Growth in the presence of oxygen (growth in the absence of oxygen) Explain why: E2- Growth in the presence of glucose (growth in the presence of CO.) Explain why: in the presence of NO3) Explain why: 3- Growth in the presence of Fe (growth in the presence of NO;)

Answer #1

E1. Growth in the presence of oxygen would be same growth rate (B) as it is aerobic organism. In control, the absence of oxygen there would be no growth (A) as this strain is strict aerobe.

E2. Growth in presence of glucose (A), this is lithoautotroph (growing om minerals)so can't grown on glucose. The positive control with Cow will have faster growth rate (C)as it would have excess to carbon through CO2.

E3. In presence of ferrous iron the growth will be faster (C). As being lithoautotroph it will derive it's energy from oxidation of ferrous ions. In presence of nitrate there will be no growth (A) as this can't use nitrate as energy source.

Using the general gas law (V= nRT/p) give the variables that had to be controlled for your data to be valid. State the controls used for each variable and any means used to correct for the influence of a variable. 3. Why does respirometer 3 serve as a negative control?...
