So here in this experiment,the outcome /variable of police branding/deploying tasers is a dependent variable because it depends on the suspects' race /ethnicity i.e., whether he/she belongs to Hispanic / black / other kinds of race which is an independent variable because race is not dependent on any other factor / variable.
