1. Career Coaching is the professional support provided for career development. It is a focused approach to identify any skill gaps and an action plan for learning new competencies or dealing with any career challenges. It is an organised effort for improvement of abilities to achieve career related goals and availing new opportunities through skills and knowledge enhancement. It is empowerment through expert advise and professional help to maximise the career potential through improvement of personal and professional development.

2. The core competencies and key skills required to deliver career development sessions are communication, patience, knowledge, leadership qualities, problem solving, mentoring, goal driven, team building and performance oriented approach. It is important that a career coach a personal is able to communicate and develop interpersonal skills. The coach need to instil self confidence and identify the needs of a person based on their assessment and analysis. They need leadership qualities for guiding on problem solving and stress management.

3. Assessment of strengths and weaknesses against the core competencies required for professional coaching are communication, problem solving, analytical, goal oriented and performance driven attitude. These skills and competencies are acquired through experience along with learning attitude for gaining knowledge. The weaknesses are lack of patience, team building and self confidence. In career development, it is required to learn to develop these skills apart from individual goals and performance. The experience to assess and identify the skills gaps required patience to build them over a period.

4. Three factors that influence individual's career choices apart from education, training and job roles are personality, interests and life goals. If a person has personality skills which are exploratory and innovative then a person will choose similar challenging jobs and may not fit well with a regular and routine jobs . The interests of the person also determine their career choices. A person chooses jobs with which they can identify their interests and may find them more suitable. The life goals like being an entrepreneur or manager or a research scientist can influence the career choices of a person.
