Types of neighborhood crime prevention approaches-

In order to keep the neighborhood free from crime and violence the following measures are adopted:

(1) Setting up neighborhood watch or community patrol.

(2)- If you own a dog, be part of Dog Walker Watch program

(3)- Engine immobilizer which do not start until a signal from the driver is recieved.

(4)- CCTV surveillance to keep eye on the happenings in the neighborhood.

Building Guardianship-

Guardianship refers to a person or an object that is capable of letting a mishap not happen just by their presence and also, whose absence can cause a crime. Guardianship can be digital as well. This follows

Felson‘s description of guardianship as any person who ―serves by simple presence to prevent crime and by absence to make crime more likely. The rate of increase in building Guardianship is related to low rate of crime in the neighborhood.

Evaluation of neighborhood crime prevention-

The effects of the crime prevention is seen on community cohesion as people tend to come together and discuss about the right fulness of the techniques that are used in preventing crime. People help each other in providing information about the happenings in the society or the neighborhood. This has only helped community cohesion.

The effects of crime prevention is that the crimes have relatively decreased to when there were no CCTVs or patrolling in the area. It not only has decreased the crime but has also made neighbourhood better place to live. The cities are safer to live and criminals have gone underground.

Example:

The kirkholt burglary prevention program was project of London Home Office PoliceDepartment Crime Prevention Unit carried out in Cocoon neighborhood watch. In this people came together and helped prevention of burglary.

Safer cities: Since the communities have become safer , the cities have in whole become safer as well.

Citizen Participation and Support:The participation in crime prevention programs is from anyone in the community be it a man or woman or even a dog. Anybody can contribute to the safety of the society. Political parties can also participate.

Even after all the measures, security is not 100% sure, this means the participation has to be leveraged.
