Outbreaks of cyanobacteria intoxication associated with lakes and ponds are reported annually because nutrient rich water bodies such as ponds and lakes support the increased growth of the blooms of the cyanobacteria.
Since growth of cyanobacterial blooms increases when there is enough sun ,the water is warm, stagnant or slow moving water and enough nutrients like phoshorous and nitrogen present in the waterbody and as all this factors are promptly present during summer it results in more cases related with cyanobacterial intoxication.
Cyanobacteria intoxication is not associated with swimming pool because water in swimming pool is well chlorinated which kills the cyanobacteria and develope unfavorable condition for cyanobacterial growth.
