(5) (10 0 points) In re ser pro* his ret cells are ser pro his (i.e. they will only grow if serine, proline and histidine are included in ne or h and the recipient cells are ser pro the media a generalized transduction system using P1 phage, the E. coli donor cells a transductants on re then tested on plates containing just minimal medihedonor allele ser is initially selected after transduction (by growing potential tras edia plus proline and histidine), and 50 ser transductants a stidine to determine if the other alleles were cotransduced. Here are the results Number of colonies Genotype pro his pro* his proT his pro his 9 29 50 total

Answer #1

The cotransduction frequency is - 9 + 11/50

= 0.4

Or if we want to express in percentage it will be 40%.

Cotransduction means both ser and his are transducted into the recombinant. That is ser- is transformed into ser+ and his- is transformed into his+ in the recombinant.

The data given here are ser+ selected that means all are ser+ recombinant. So we just need to count the his+.

So cotransduction frequency= No of recombinant/ Total number of colonies.

So we will get- 0.4 or 40%.
