false, homologous chromosomes also present during mitosis but they are not paired. THe no. of chromosomes in metaphase mitosis and metaphase I meiosis is same. the pairing chromosomes are called bivalent so, the no. of bivalent in metaphase I for human is 23 and in mitosis is none.
