Total fertility rate is measure of no of child births in a year per thousand women in their reproductive years.

Demographic notation.

Women between 15 to 49 are considered to be in their reproductive age.

Total such women's are calculated and then total birth in a year is calculated.

Ration of child birth to women population in reproductive age is denominated by 1000 to make it per thousand .

So formula becomes , no of child births/(no of women between age (15 to 49)×1000)
