In a given population of flies, pink skin (e) is recessive to the wild-type skin (E). A population has 96 pink flies, and 125 that have wild type skin. What is the frequency of alleles in this population? Assume HW equilibrium.

Answer #1

total number of flies=96+125

=221

Frequency of pink flies ( genotypic frequency of ee)= number of pink flies/ total number

=96/125

=0.768

frequency of allele e= square root of the genotypic frequency of ee

= square root of 0.768

=0.8763

frequency of allele E+ frequency of allele e=1

frequency of allele E= 1- frequency of allele e

=1-0.8763

=0.1237

Some fruit flies have an autosomal mutation that causes the recessive white-eyes to appear compared to the wild-type (dominant) red eyes, while others have an X-linked mutation that causes the same varieties. You are presented with two populations of flies in unmarked tubes: one that has the autosomal white-eye mutation, and a population that has the X-linked mutation for white-eye. Assuming you have separated the pure breeding red and white-eyed parents in each population, What is the set of two...

In humans, sickle-cell anemia (HBBSHBBS) is caused by the recessive condition of an autosomal gene with two alleles: HBBA (wild-type) and HBBS (sickle-cell mutation). In one population, the frequency of individuals who do not suffer from sickle-cell anemia (HBBAHBBA and HBBAHBBS) is 0.9964. Assuming the population is in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, what is the frequency of the HBBS allele?
