If the increase in entropy indicates the direction of spontaneous change, how can a system ever undergo a process that results in a decrease in the entropy of the system?

Answer #1

Usually, entropy of a system is follows the order solid < liquid < gaseous. As the entropy increases , ∆G value becomes more negative and the system undegoes spontaneous change.

In order to decrease the entropy, the system state can be changed from gaseous to liquid or solid state. This will decrease the entropy.
