10. (20 pts.) Three ideal polarizers are oriented as follows: The axis of the second polarizer is at an angle of 59.0° relative to the first one. The axis of the third polarizer is at an angle of 31.0 relative to the second one, so the axis of the axis of the third polarizer is perpendicular to the axis of the first one. Unpolarized light is incident on the first polarizer. (a) What is the intensity o the light after it passes through the first polarizer? B) What is the intensity of the light after it passes through the second polarizer? C) What is the intensity of the light after it passes through the third po larizer? 11. (18 pts.) Answer #1

here,

a)

when unpoarized light of intensity passes I0 passes through the first polarizer

the intensity of light passed , I1 = I0 /2 = 0.5 * I0

b)

theta1 = 59 degree

the intensity of light passed through the seccond polarizer , I2 = I1 * ( cos(theta1))^2

I2 = 0.5 * I0 * ( cos(59))^2

I2 = 0.133 * I0

c)

theta2 = 31 degree

the intensity of light passed through the third polarizer , I3 = I2 * ( cos(theta2))^2

I3 = 0.133 * I0 * ( cos(31))^2

I3 = 0.0.098 * I0
