With the advent of technology and market related changes, their is increasing amount of competition among the companies in each industries. Thus, the market has become customer-driven, i.e. prices are driven by customers, requirements and desires of customers are to be fulfilled through innovative concepts and improved models. Thus, companies such as Apple Corp. who are completely technology-driven have to introduce newer and higher technologically advanced products and newer versions continuously. Thus, ensuring diversification of the product line. This is not as simple as it sounds. The organizations have to spend sufficient amount of time and money in R & D so as to increasing create value for customers. They need to become more agile and their design must be different, yet similar so that manufacturing is facilitated. Thus, comes the importance of standardization and increased efficiency. The organizations are now focussing on becoming leaner and applying the concept and tools of lean manufacturing to maximize productivity and eliminate wasteful activities.
