A research engineer for a tire manufacturer is investigating tire life for a new rubber compound and has built 16 tires and tested them to end-of-life in a road test. The sample mean and standard deviation are 60139.7 and 3645.94 kilometers. The engineer would like to demonstrate that the mean life of this new tire is in excess of 60,000 kilometers. Formulate and test appropriate hypotheses, and draw conclusions using a = 0.05.

A tire manufacturer has a 60,000 mile warranty for tread life. The manufacturer considers the overall tire quality to be acceptable if less than 5% are worn out at 60,000 miles. The manufacturer tests 250 tires that have been used for 60,000 miles. They find that 3.6% of them are worn out. With this data, we test the following hypotheses. HO: The proportion of tires that are worn out after 60,000 miles is equal to 0.05. H: The proportion of...

[6-34] The manufacturer of a new fiberglass tire claims that its average life will be at least 40,000 miles. To verify this claim, sample of 15 tires are tested. Sample mean was 41.1 (in 1000 miles), and sample standard deviation was 2.50. Assuming the measurements were random sample from a Normal distribution, calculate 95% one-sided confidence interval for true mean tire life. Choose lower-bound or upper-bound, whichever is appropriate. (Round to 2 decimals.) Your Answer: Answer
