A speedboat moves on a lake with initial velocity vector v1,x = 9.89 m/s and v1,y = -2.37 m/s, then accelerates for 5.01 seconds at an average acceleration of aav,x = -0.106 m/s2 and aav,y = 0.107 m/s2. What are the components of the speedboat\'s final velocity, v2,x and v2,y?

Answer #1

Here ,

initial speed , v1 = 9.89 i - 2.37 j

acceleration , a = -0.106 i + 0.107 j

time , t = 5.01 s

Using first equation of motion

v2 = v1 + a * t

v2 = 9.89 i - 2.37 + 5.01 *(-0.106 i + 0.107 j )

v2 = 9.349 i -1.83 j m/s

the components of speedboat's final velocity is v2x = 9.349 m/s v2y = -1.83 m/s
