Answer #1

Percent recovery rate will increase if overall purity of mixture is increased because now we have more recoverable substance per unit waste. Let's take an example we have 2.54 pure substance in each of two waste matter of 10 and 15 gram sample.here overall purity of 10 gm sample is more than that of 15 gram. Now let's say we can recover 1.07 of pure matter from 15 gram sample than we will recover more than 1.07 gm pure substance from 10 gm sample using same recovery technique so here recovery rate is more in 10 gm sample.

An unknown mixture (dissolved in diethyl ether) contains only 2 of the following : benzoic acid, phenol, aniline and napthalene. You use the acid-base extraction method and want to identify the 2 compounds in your original mixture. 1) To separate the organic acid you add NaOH and to separate the organic base you add HCl.In both cases these extractions are followed by extractions with water. Why do we add water? Why is this step important? (A clear explanation please). 2)When...

Lab C: mass %? mole ratio of each of three components: benzoic acid, dimethyl terephthalate, 4-nitroaniline. (1:1:1 ratio in compound) Analysis 1. Determine mass % and mole ratio of each of the three components in the original mixture 2. Conduct melting point analysis of your three components and determine whether you did a good job (or not!) of separating them. 3. Based on how much of each component you mixed, determine product recovery (%).
